DetailsTachibana En Ryushi Kunihide was a disciple of Nakayama Ichisai Yoshihiro and went by the name En Ryushi. It was first made around the Tenpo period as a craftsman for the Itakura family of the Annaka domain in Ueno Province, and the inscriptions from that time include ``Ryuko Tachibana, Joshu Annaka Jumien'' and ``Kunihide Tachibana,'' ``Tachibanaen Ryushi.'' Later, he moved to Kamakura, Sagami Province, where his works by Kaei, Ansei, Bunkyu, etc. can be seen, and are labeled as ``Sōshu Kamakura Sumikuni Shusaku'' and ``Sōshu Kamakura Sumikuni Kunisaku.'' One of his disciples was Yoshihide Tachibana Enryuuji, the grandson of his master Yoshihiro Ichisai and the son of Yoshikatsu Nagashima of Mito. The reason why Kunihide was entrusted with the training of his grandson by his master was probably because he highly valued Kunihide's skill and trusted him. It is a well-known story that Ryoma Sakamoto at the end of the Edo period had Mutsu no kami Yoshiyuki as his personal sword, but in 1966, he entered the Hokushin Ittō-ryu Chiba Sadakichi dojo in Edo, and towards the end of his training, he ordered the sword A sword with a blade length of 2 shaku, 6 sun, and 6 minutes (80.6 cm) that has the inscriptions ``Kunihide, resident of Kamakura, Soshu,'' and ``Kaei 7 years, 8 months,'' still exists. This sword was later exchanged for the sword of Kenta Hirose, a comrade in the Tosa Kinnoto party. At that time, it was popular among Tosa domain samurai to refer to a long sword called ``Tosa Nagato.'' This work is a long sword measuring 2 shaku, 8 cm, and 5 minutes long, and the vermilion lacquered scabbard is truly a Tosa long sword.
