DetailsYoshisuke was a lineage of swordsmiths active in Shimada, Suruga Province, and was also known as Gojō Yoshisuke. It was one of the lineages belonging to the Shimada school and continued through successive generations from the mid-Muromachi period to the mid-Edo period. Yoshisuke is renowned as the smith who forged Otegine, one of the Three Great Spears of Japan. This blade was made by a Muromachi-period generation of Yoshisuke and is an exceptionally well-made early work, apparently modeled after the Rai school.
