DetailsThe Hosho sect of Yamato Province(大和国保昌派) is known to live in Takaichi District(高市郡), based on existing materials. It flourished from the end of the Kamakura period(鎌倉時代末期,12th~13th century )to the period of the Northern and Southern Courts(南北朝時代,14th~16th century), and Sadamune (貞宗)and Sadayoshi(貞吉) are most often heard as the representative craftsmen of the sect, with other masters such as Sadakiyo (Sadakiyo)and Sadaoki(貞興), all of whom use the kanji ``Sada(貞)''. The style of this school expresses straight-grained forging on the ground glass, and there are many cases where the blade pattern of the straight blade is fired. The base iron of this tanto is straight-grained, flows all over, is well-crafted, has a thick coating on the surface of the ground, frequently enters the ground finely, has a sharp reflection, and the blade pattern is a straight edge with a shallow drape pattern. This is an excellent work that shows the typical Hosho style(保昌派). It is accompanied by an Uruoi-nuri-kamon-makie-saya-aikuchi-tanto-koshirae (潤塗家紋蒔絵鞘合口短刀拵) that is thought to have been made in the late Edo period(江戸時代末期).
