DetailsIn 1975, Mr. Shinpei Kato became a disciple of Mr. Yukihira Miyairi, a Living National Treasure who was hailed as the pinnacle of the sword world at the time, and two years later, due to the death of his master, Mr. Shinpei Kato moved to Haguro, Yamagata Prefecture, a fraternity of the Miyairi clan. He trained for five years under Mr. Kohei Kambayashi in the town. He won the Sudden Effort Award at the New Sword Exhibition sponsored by the Japan Art Swords Preservation Association, which was his first time exhibiting his work, and since then, he has continued to win the Tanto category for four years at this exhibition, where around 100 out of 300 swordsmiths exhibit their works every year. He is now one of the leading modern swordsmiths, having won the Excellence Award consecutively (including winning the top prize three years in a row), but his fierce aesthetics propelled him to even greater heights, and he achieved his goal of becoming a master craftsman, Masamune. We will continue to work hard today to recreate the story of Soshuden. This work is a swing that imitates Awataguchi's tanto, with a straight edge, mono-uchi and small alternating eyes, a yuhashiri-style double-blade entry in the middle, and a light Awataguchi.
